Did I tell you I have a soft spot in my dehydrated heart for sushi?….Because I do! *sips water*
Sushi Zushi, located in the Lincoln Heights area of San Antonio serves up a humongous variety of sushi rolls and oriental originality. I have never seen a menu so large with so many cultural infusions.. Seriously- it was a Yellow Pages phone book…but with sushi pictures. Our wait staff had to return twice before we decided what to eat. Needless to say, there really is SOMETHING on the menu for everyone.
Cocktails first! I sipped the Ginger Blackberry Smash, complete with muddled blackberries and ginger pieces. It was a pulp-y, chunky, fruity glass of bliss. And if you are one of ‘those’ people who have the same drink at every restaurant, then this drink is for those who want the slightest buzz but who don’t deal with hard liquor. AND for cheapskates like myself, Sushi Zushi has Happy Hour EVERY DAY from 3:00pm-7:00pm. So go ahead and put this on your affordable date mental checklist. 🍴✔️ #Done
Appetizers! Green Mussels Dynamite. Most people imagine mussels as somewhat slimy with an odd mushy consistency. The exact opposite occurred on this plate! Aside from the fabulous presentation of the entree itself- the mussels were tender with enough texture and flavor for three drinks. The spicy mayo and eel sauce were spectacular. Enjoy these with your pinky up, k? 😄
Sushi TIME! So I tried the Boston Roll and the Oaklawn Roll. I’m a sucker for a great picture and since the Oakland roll was pictured I made the choice quickly. Tsk tsk! I was disappointed because I wanted to try fifteen different rolls. Both rolls boasted flavorful bites with unique textures. The Boston Roll is a safe choice for those who like fried tempura sushi styles. The roll leans on the sweeter side and possesses a more savory taste with avocado and cream cheese. The Oaklawn Roll is a mouthful of spice (and I was wiping my nose after every bite) along with refreshing bits of “colorful caviars drizzled with Wasabi cream sauce.” For other sushi enthusiast (Since the menu was so vast it toyed with my emotions) I suggest you order a sushi combination platter with your friends THEEEN order a signature roll.
Sushi Zushi has a modernized relaxed atmosphere so no need to dress up- but don’t be trashy. My rule of thumb is that if they have black straws you need to wear real clothes. So no gym wear! No sweats and yoga pants. (Yeah, the black straw rule sounds dumb but think about the nicer restaurants you have been to….. Black straws,!.? yepppp. Easy as that.) The wait staff was busy but pleasant and made attempts at being conversational. I appreciate the effort. And the restrooms have spa music ( ya know, birds chirping and waterfalls) for relaxation while I tinkle. #Win
