The Hangar Tavern is quaint craft beer and cocktail bar located on Brook Hollow Blvd near the Shady Oaks area in San Antonio- AND has a sister location, The Hangar, near the airport. Neat right? Today I’m gonna focus on the younger sister (because thats USUALLY how it goes. LOL I’m kidding.)
If I were a hipster- or very well versed in stouts– I would live in The Hangar Tavern several weeks at a time. #TrueStory. This past Wednesday I participated in their monthly craft beer tasting and man it was AWESOME! Opportunity to be tipsy on a Wednesday night?! YES, PLEASE! For just five crumbly dollars I was able to sample ten beers- and these beers were out there! It was a stunning variety ranging from pilsner ales, to swanky stouts, and trendy ciders. I was pleasantly surprised. The Hangar Tavern also had door prizes and I was SO bummed i didn’t win because they were actually prizes that people want (and by “people” I mean people like me who are Libation Enthusiasts.)

Onto the menu- since this is technically a restaurant review I had to GRUB! I tried the Flight Attendant burger and my wife had the Jalapeño Infused Cheddar Burger. Both burgers were top-notch, but the Jalapeño burger was the #TRUTH. “Infused” is the correct description- that burger was hot! I thought it was perfect though because it was a heat that can be tolerated and it did not overpower the burger itself. The fries were nice too-complete with sea salt I believe, and freshhhhh cut.
Let’s chat about the atmosphere for sec. On the outside the tavern is stereotypically tavern-ish (i.e dim lighting, “dark and stormy night”, scary bouncer at the door, etc) but on the inside the tavern is spacious, clean, and very inviting. The bar is set above the seating and sampling area so it was easier to figure out who trying to mingle and who is trying to drown their sorrows :(. AND overall the crowd was upbeat and filled to the brim with San Antonian Hipsters…..and the Meetup.com groups. Apparently MeetUp groups have interesting characters ALL on their own. I could write a whole blog on them alone- but I digress!
I loved it! The Hangar Tavern invites those who are tired of the stuffy restaurants and ridiculous traffic. Those who just want to kick back and enjoy a not-so-common beer and have a conversation with someone who doesn’t have their entire face stuck in their phone.
They even have their own blog. Y’all are just too cool. #ICantDeal!
